By · CommentsThe American – Australian sci-fi TV show, Farscape has been shot in Australia and is broadcasted through the Nine Network and Sci-Fi Channel. Rockne S. O’ Bannon created the show and the producers are Hallmark Entertainment and Jim Henson Productions. In fact, the various props and make – ups of aliens were all by the Jim Henson Company and the Pilot and Rygel, the 
animatronic puppets which had a regular role were all made up by Creature Shop.
The season ended with cliffhanger after four seasons and later, Brian Henson, one of the producers of the show went on to make a miniseries of four hour duration and termed it, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars. He even handled the direction of the series himself.

Some thoughts on Farscape

went off the air before TV Squad even materialized into existence. Being the prompt person I am (note the sarcasm), I finally had the chance to watch the complete series right before the new year. What struck me most about the show was its spiritualism and fantasy elements.
The science behind it was crap. Even the scientist character of Jool made note of this in one of the episodes. Farscape
was more of a fantasy with some scientific window dressing, much like the Star Wars movies. It speaks volumes when the central hero has the initials “J.C.” like some religious icons we know.
Unfortunately, the show suffered poor ratings and its fifth season was cut short to a min-series called The Peacekeeper Wars. While the show suffered from minor character and plot inconsistencies (such as all the super-powers that Chiana seemed to acquire at certain moments), the narrative was pretty solid. In fact, it was the most well put-together science fiction show since Babylon 5 and didn’t even have for the most part a single writer like that one did.
I’m sure more deep and meaningful analyses exist for this program elsewhere, as I was going for brevity. Did you watch this program while it was on? What did you think of it?

Created at least in part du to popular demand, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars will provide some closure to fans who were dismayed by the demise of the popular science fiction television show in 2003 and campaigned mightily to bring it back. Indeed, this miniseries (originally broadcast over two nights on the Sci-Fi Channel) will likely appeal primarily to the Farscape faithful, as the somewhat convoluted storyline may prove baffling to the uninitiated.
A brief bit of backstory explains how John Crichton, an astronaut from Earth, went through a wormhole and ended up on Moya, a living spaceship, with a motley group of aliens, including D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe), Chiana (Gigi Edgley), various puppet characters (designed by the Jim Henson Company), and Aeryn (Claudia Black), Crichton’s love interest, who’s expecting their first child. As The Peacekeeper Wars begins, our heroes find themselves in the middle of a war-to-end-all-wars between the lizard-like, implacably evil Scarrans and their rivals, the Peacekeepers. Crichton is the lynchpin in all of this, as his knowledge of “wormhole technology” is coveted by all, including his old nemesis Scorpius (Wayne Pygram), who captured and tortured Crichton back in season 1 and with whom Crichton must now form an uneasy alliance against the Scarrans.
Over the course of the three-hour miniseries, we get lots of weird- and cool-looking aliens, some nice sets and special effects, plenty of battles, and lots of portentous talk about the fate of the universe–nothing especially original, but all presented with outstanding production valus. There’s drama and action, love and betrayal, tragedy and triumph, war and, ultimately, peace, with a suitably spectacular ending (and a nod to Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey). With a 30-minute “making of” documentary among the DVD special features, The Peacekeeper Wars is a fitting way to end the Farscape saga. –Sam Graham

New Farscape DVDs hit the stores

The epical adventure ‘Farscape’, which is ground breaking and award-winning sci-fi production, has become a fan favourite, all around the world. It is one of television’s best trendy shows ever and known for the overwhelming fan-based campaign that led to the miniseries production, ‘Farscape’ has continued to find new audiences as it airs in syndication and is now available on DVD around the world.
Farscape will introduce DVD in The Complete Series Mega-set in November as the show marks its 10th anniversary, with all four seasons and hours of extras; executive producer Brian Henson, creator Rockne O’Bannon and stars Ben Browder and Claudia Black will be at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego to discuss their favourite moments from the series and the DVD re-release.
Although the series was under contract for five seasons, it was abruptly canceled after production had ended on its fourth season, effectively ending the series on a cliffhanger. Co-producer Brian Henson later secured the rights to Farscape, paving the way for a three-hour miniseries entitled Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which was directed by Henson. New episodes have been announced, but production has been repeatedly put on hold. A new comic book miniseries released on November 2008, which is in the continuity of both the series and the hoped-for more episodes.
